Eighty-seven percent of homes and small businesses in London will be able to get super-fast broadband services through ST’s nextgeneration access network by early next year, the company has announced.

BT also claimed t hat nearly 90 per ce nt of premises in the capital al ready had access to speeds of up to 20Mbps using the company’s ADSL2-+- copper-based technology, These speeds are set to increase to closer to 4Q Mbps when fibre-optic exchanges are installed.

BT is currently upgrading networks in Muswell Hill, Canonbury, Chingford, Edmonton, Enfield, Thamesmead and Tottenham.

The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has asked Google to remove links to illegal digital recordings from it’s search index and from its database.
A leaked letter from the music industry body claims that the search engine links to websites that are breaking copyright laws and has requested that it removes the links “as soon as possible”.
“We have identified the following links that are available via Google’s search engine and request the following links be removed as soon as possible as they directly link to sound recordings owned by our members,” the letter said .

Online storage sites such as Megaupload.com, which has been asked to remove copyright-infringing material in the past, were named in the letter. However, the letter stops short of directly accusing Google or the storage sites of abetting copyright theft.
Google has so far made no comment on the matter,
